Interview: Crissy - CEO of "That Chick" Entertainment

Meet Crissy, she is one of the hottest and hardest working Entertainment Managers in the hip-hop industry. We recently caught up with Crissy for an exclusive interview. Check out what she had to say....

jennifer vaughnHi Crissy, tell us about yourself. How did you initially decide to get into entertainment management? What was the catalyst to you making this decision?

Actually, it kind of just fell into my lap. I decided to do a throwback birthday party for myself since I was recently divorced and single for the first time in so many years. I used to do parties when I was much younger but hadn't done any in a long time. They still talk about those parties. I booked the legendary Special Ed. Ed, his DJ Greg aka G-Money and myself began to do business together. I was introduced to people through them. Greg is actually in Brooklyn and he took me under his wing. I then began to go out by myself and met so many people and formed both business relationships and friendships with many in the industry (artists, djs, athletes, actors, models and so on). I started to connect a lot of people from NY to CT to NJ to ATL. Then I thought I could make some money doing this and hence the birth of That Chick Entertainment.

How did the name "That Chick" come about?

The name was first mentioned by CTs own DJ Juan Coon who saw the moves I was making and when he introduced me to people he would say "She's that chick. You need to link with her". He then started shouting me out at parties as That Chick Crissy. But then it was cemented for me when I was actually at another gig with Special Ed and was talking to a guy who asked me wasn't I that chick that was on stage with Fab in Springfield (MA) and his boy said "No, that's that chick that was on stage with French Montana in Hartford" and a third guy chimed in and said "No, thats that chick that was on stage with Red Cafe and DJ Self at BB Kings in NY". Kind of thought right there I was officially "That Chick" lol and ran with it.

Tell us a little about your successful business endeavor, That Chick entertainment? Wow! ok you ready?

WWell let me start by saying that in this game you really don't make money doing one thing, at least not when your on the come up. So I do everything. I book artists, djs, models, comedians, exotic dancers and even adult film stars. I do liaison work and distribution for established entertainers, I host parties, do drops, promote, consult, do event and party planning. I am currently holding the Untapped Talent Showcase (which is unlike any other showcase in CT) in Norwalk, once a month. I also work with local artists and djs, getting them connections to mixtape djs, dvds, photographers, videographers, directors, producers and more. Furthermore, I manage the Pink Candy Models. On a personal note my daughter Shantelle (who is a Pink Candy Model) and I have done pilots for a reality show which I came up with the concepts for and is being pitched to networks now, I have been meeting with an author to do my auto biography, have been approached to do a new internet radio show (recently left WPMR where I co-hosted with Dipset's Dj Meen) and I am the Hip- Hop Editor for CT Sound Magazine.... did I mention this all in addition to my day job which is in a totally different field

jennifer vaughnDefine what being sexy is to you?

Sexy is sensuality oozing from within, its showing as little as possible and making the imagination stretch to the limits, it's knowing how to use everything you have to make a man stop in his tracks, take notice and think of you later on when you're not around and hopefully indulging as many of a mans senses as possible (all at once), in addition to having a good head on your shoulders, and having a self confidence. Sexy is what you make it

Crissy, you are a testament that women are at their sexiest in their 40s. You have one of the most refined, voluptuous physiques that I've seen that elicits a high degree of pleasure from one’s aesthetic senses, so I'm curious to know what does your diet and exercise regimen consist of?

Well thank you. To be honest I've been slacking a lot because working and running my business. That causes me to put in quite a few 18-20 hour days (sometimes 4 a week). However, I started to really begin to take care of myself around 25. I mean I always worked out but started to pay attention to how I was eating then. Normally, I do a lot of protein, chicken, fish, egg whites, try to stay away from enriched flour products and do more wheats, lots of tea and water and tons of veggies. I am addicted to bake goods though so I still eat them but in moderation. As for working out I try to do 3-4 times a week usually 1-2 hours weights (always first) and then cardio. But again this is actually the most out of shape Ive been because the last 3 years I've been in survival mode. Have been through way too much.

jennifer vaughnHow would you describe the image that comes across when people look at your photos?

Sensual. I think people know I'm all woman. I've been told its all in my eyes and the way I carry myself. Guys will say they can tell this or that (I wont get into detail) about me by my eyes mostly though. I also think the image is also more of an experienced woman who still looks youthful.

There are a lot of misconceptions or stereotypes about high profile women in the entertainment industry. Does that stigma follow you?

Being a white female in the hip-hop (music) industry I get it real bad. They automatically think "naive white girl" or "groupie", they never guess my age. I think its hilarious. They assume that until they get stupid and they're quickly checked. Then one of two things happens I either become a bitch or respected. I could care less. I deal with only real people in this business. I don't need to bow down to anyone. I'm too old for that bullshit. You'll see there are certain artists and djs I work hard for like Red Cafe, Grafh, Sheek Louch, Fred the Godson, Dj Self, Flex and a more but I do it because they are good guys, I respect them and they respect me and show me love and support. Besides I grew up in the projects- you cant really run game on me.

jennifer vaughnWhat would you say sets you apart from other women in the same field, with similar goals?

I cant say much about what other women are doing or not doing. If I spend time focusing on them it takes away from the moves I need to be focusing on. If anything I would say my grind though because I know im everywhere putting in endless hours. There are so many times i go to NY for industry events get home at 6am and am up for work at 7am and put in another 12-15 hour day at a minimum. I dont think many other people in general (that do what I do) are doing that. Then again I didn't create hard work so you never know.

Do you place any limitations on yourself in terms of what you will and will not do in this industry to succeed, or do you have a 'by any means necessary I will get mine in the 21st century' attitude?

I definitely have limits as I mentioned early. I will not kiss anyone's ass or tolerate any BS, I will not be talked down to either or be under-appreciated and I damn sure won't sell myself short. Do you have any idea how many times I'm on the phone doing business and am asked "can you send me a sexy pic?" Unbelievable. But I do send them a sexy pic, its a pic of both of my degrees side by side....nothing sexier than an educated and attractive woman who's a boss. I actually am doing this because I enjoy it.
