Interview: Jessica Houston
Literally, one of the cutest faces ever to appear in the Hip-Hop modeling scene, bombshell Jessica Houston is a force to reckon with.
The exquisiteness of Jessica is mind-blowing and she is going to mesmerize you with an impressive slate of magazine appearances and music videos coming our way
soon.
We recently
caught up with Jessica for an exclusive interview. Check out what she had to say..

Hi Jessica, can you introduce yourself to our
readers please? Who is Jessica Houston?
My name is Jessica Houston. I was born and raised
in San Diego, CA and still live here. I am an aspiring model and actress.
What was your first step into the world of
modeling? Have you always been comfortable with showing off your body?
I actually started with doing runway modeling. I
absolutely love runway modeling. I then started connecting with designers and
photographers and did some print/editorial work. Eventually, networking with new
photographers and all kinds of people in the industry I started exploring
different styles of modeling.
To be honest, I haven't always been comfortable
with showing off my body especially when I first started doing urban modeling.
Only because it was SO different from what I was use to, but you just have to be
confident in yourself and understand if you are that uncomfortable, never feel
like you HAVE to go that route in modeling. You can still be sexy without
showing it all. Do what you are comfortable with.
How was your first shoot? What advice would you
give new models about how to prepare?
Your first shoot is such a learning experience.
Obviously, I loved it and now can't get enough of being in front of the camera.
You have to be comfortable with what you are shooting, the camera reads
EVERYTHING! It's almost like acting, you have to become what you are trying to
portray. Evaluate your pictures and work on how you can improve yourself for the
next shoots.

Define what being sexy is to you.
Being sexy to me is naturally embracing your inner
beauty. Being confident and assure of yourself. Being respectful to yourself and
staying humble. All combined screams sexy.
Eye candy and Modeling is there a difference to
you?
When I hear "Eye candy" I think of a typical sexy
woman/man that will indeed attract attention by their appearance. Modeling is a
career, a passion, a dream, art... A lot of effort is put in and it's not
something you can just pick up one day. You work constantly to improve your
talent and pay attention to all detail to create something amazing.
What, if anything, do you dislike about being a
hip-hop vixen?
The stereotypes.
Jessica, your beauty is rare and intoxicating. How
would you describe the demand for your beauty in the modeling industry? How
fierce is the competition you confront with other perfect-bodied beauties?
Thank you. Well, first off, no one is perfect! There
are so many different types of modeling one can do. As for me and my versatile
look I am lucky to be able to do many genres of modeling which a lot of people
look for. I am confident in my looks and my capabilities as a model. A pretty
face and nice body doesn't always mean a model. I just stay focused on my goals
and do my best.
What has 2010 been for you in terms of modeling
work (party hosting, magazines, videos etc)?
Well, this is really my first year doing the whole
hip-hop/urban modeling. I've been able to work with some amazing photographers
such as Derick G, Mark Edwards, Richard Franklin, etc. I will be featured in my
first printed magazine (Zaria Magazine) this year and have or will be featured
in a few other mags such as, Dream Curves Magazine, Dynasty Series, Silk Mag.,
Pure Cash Mag. I have also been in a few music videos with artist such as
Keyshia Cole, YG, Bow wow, John Brown, etc... I am just looking forward to so much
more I have coming up!
Can you describe a regular day in the life of
Jessica Houston?
- I play mommy during the week (giggles). I don't have any
kids of my own but for 9 and a half hours Mon-Fri I am a nanny for two young
boys. They pretty much keep me busy during the week. I am also a free lance
makeup artist so whenever I get the extra time I work doing that. Otherwise, I
am always working on my modeling and working on promoting and building my image.

For all its outward glamour, urban modeling can be
a pretty tough business. There's a lot in fighting between models (just see
Twitter for proof) and unprofessionalism from the people who run the business.
What lessons have you learned so far about this industry that you can pass along
to aspiring models?
It is a tough business with tough competition but
you just have to believe in yourself and out-shine the rest! Set yourself apart
from the ordinary and stay positive. Don't get involved with the petty stuff.
Remember to stay professional, because you never know who knows who in the
industry and who might be able to help you further your career.
Is safety a high priority for you? What have you
learned about how to keep yourself safe while working as a hip-hop model?
Of course! If someone said no I'd be worried about
them (giggles). Do some research on who you plan to work with. Don't be afraid to ask
questions, you're there for the job so you have every right to know all the
details. If you can, bring someone with you try not to go places alone
especially if you are working with someone new.
We've noticed that you have quite a following
online. How important is it for you to stay in touch with your fans online?
It's very important to me! These are the people
that support me, have to show them love for that! They are the ones helping to
get my name out there and building my image.
What are some of your upcoming projects? What
would you consider your biggest accomplishment so far?
I don't want to give away too much but you will
see me featured in some more magazines and covers. I will be doing more videos,
some commercials, and I have a calendar coming out real soon! So for all my
fans/supporters just stick around, there will be plenty more of me!
Lastly, where do you see yourself in 5 - 10 years?
I would love to see myself making a career out of
this passion of mine. I
see myself getting involved in many different aspects of the industry and going
far with it!
